Newnan is a small city located 30 minutes southwest of Atlanta, Georgia. It is the county seat of Coweta County. Located along Interstate 85, it is also a short drive away from Auburn, Alabama and Columbus, Georgia.
History
Newnan was established in 1828 as the county seat of Coweta County to replace the town of Bullsboro. It was named for General Daniel Newnan. The city’s early economy was driven by the slave driven cotton industry, but it escaped damage during the Civil War because it was used as a hospital. When the railroad arrived in 1851, manufacturing in the city expanded and its growth accelerated. Newnan is most famous as the scene of the novel and film Murder in Coweta County, which was a true story about a 1948 murder conviction of a white landowner based on the testimony of African Americans — a first for the South.
Things to Do
The Coweta County African American Heritage Museum and Research Center is located in the Caswell House. It sits on an unmarked slave cemetery and is one of the only museums focusing on African American history in Georgia. Historic Downtown Newnan Square is home to shops and buildings dating back to 1868. Nearby is the historic Coweta County Courthouse, which was built in 1904. The Oak Hill Cemetery is a Civil War cemetery located at 96 Jefferson Street. The city also publishes a list of 110 things to do in Newnan including lunch spots, picnic locations, walking tours, and parks.
Demographics
Over the last decade, Newnan’s population has doubled in size to over 34,000. Newnan, GA Air Conditioning Service
Although Newnan’s residents are lucky to avoid the high utility bills that areas with harsher climates are accustom to, their bills can be raised in other ways. Air conditioners are generally out of sight and out of mind, especially when near record highs or lows are infrequent. This could lead to maintenance being neglected and energy efficiency being lost — up to 30 percent in some cases. We recommend entering into a scheduled maintenance agreement to keep your system operating at maximum efficiency.
